Our Mechanism of Governing our Church - A group of Elders
In accordance with New Testament tradition the church is ruled by a group of leaders. The biblical terms pastor, elder and overseer are used inter-changably. Although 'pastor' is only used once, elders are often encouraged to 'pastor' (shepherd) the people in their church. We prefer the common biblical term elder, but pastor or overseer are equally valid.
- Elders must fit the biblical criteria of being above reproach and have a proven and consistent love demonstrated in service to their family and the wider church family.
- Elders are expected to serve the church family and others.
- All elders are equal.
- Elders are accountable to the group of elders.
- All church business meetings are minuted and open to all church members.
- Any members can serve on the group of elders
- The group of elders is sovereign in all matters relating to the church.
- Each elder has direct operational control of the departments they manage.
- The elders report to the church members annualy.
Each area of ministry is lead by an elder.
